Our Mission
The mission of St. Matthew’s Preschool (SMP), in partnership with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, is to provide preschool students with a vibrant and developmentally appropriate early childhood program that addresses all areas of learning – social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical – in a nurturing and supportive environment.
Established in 2010, St. Matthew's Preschool provides a vibrant and developmentally appropriate preschool program for children ages 2-5. Our dedicated teachers are nurturing and supportive and provide a dynamic, thematic-based program which stimulates curiosity and discovery, and generates enthusiasm.

Our focus is play based learning which provides developmentally appropriate opportunities for children to develop a sense of the world around them. Promoting “process versus product” allows children to learn through inquiry, exploration, interaction and problem solving. Within this framework, we utilize a thematic approach which provides the scaffolding to teach early literacy, math and science. Teachers are also certified in “Learning Without Tears”, a multi-sensory program that helps children learn skills that prepare them for Kindergarten.
Outside play is essential for all ages. Jumping, throwing, climbing and running boosts gross motor skills and imagination. All classes go out almost every day, weather permitting
St. Matthew’s Preschool is located on the grounds of the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bedford. We incorporate our beautiful surroundings, outside teachers, activities, and the community into the education of our young students.
