OUR PROGRAM

The TwO’s

The 2’s program provides a small, safe environment for a child’s first school experience. In the 2’s separation, socialization and routines are the main focus. Children learn how to share and take turns. They learn the magic of art materials such as paint, markers, dot markers, crayons and watercolor and how important it is to orient those materials to paper! (not walls and tables). As in all of our classes, art activities are process, not product focused. Sensory work abounds through such mediums as play dough, sand, and pom - poms, and children are introduced to a wide variety of songs and finger plays.

The Three’s

Three year olds are evolving social beings. They are moving from solo and parallel play to interactive play. Steeped in imagination they love exploring their world and love finding new ways to use the toys and materials. With a longer attention span, they are able to dive deeper into the themes that guide their learning and skill development. Using scissors and “big blocks” are favorite activities and now familiar skills such as painting, drawing, role playing and playground games are extended and honed.

Pre-kindergarten

The Prekindergarten class seamlessly builds on the foundation that was created in the 2’s and 3’s. Four year olds utilize their skills and developing understanding into more complex play. Group learning and following directions allows Pre K children to master both skills and independence. Learning a letter and a sound a week through the multi sensory “Learning Without Tears” program helps our Pre K’ers to explore and gain confidence (and often mastery) with literacy skills in a fun and non threatening manner. Early reading and early math skills are incorporated into every part of the Prekindergarten morning. In literacy the children work on rhyming, alliteration, recognizing sound patterns, and story prediction. In math the focus is on one to one correspondence, number recognition, shapes, patterning, and symmetry. All of these amazing and necessary skills are incorporated in a fun and developmentally appropriate practice.
